Oman Sail’s Race Management Team selected to support Qatar International Optimist Regatta 2025

Muscat: The Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation (QSRF) extended an invitation to eight seasoned members of Oman Sail’s Race Management Team to oversee the recent Qatar International Optimist Regatta 2025. The event took place at the Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha beach and showcased 52 young sailors from 12 countries spanning the region, Europe, North Africa, and Asia.

The team assisting the organizers included Nawaf Yaqoob Al Ghadani, Said Mohammed Al Aurimi, Ali Salim Al Harbi, Abid Yaqoob Al Balushi, Muaadh Gharib Al Wahaibi, Al Mukhtar Abdul Karim Al Mujini, Juma Zayid Al Balushi, and Abdul Aziz Salim Al Shidi.

Abdul Aziz Salim Al Shidi, Acting Director of Sailing at Oman Sail, expressed, “We take great pride in being invited by the QSRF to support the Qatar International Optimist Regatta 2025 and the sailing community in Qatar. This recognition highlights the expertise and reliability of Omani officials in the sailing arena. It exemplifies the high standards of professionalism, extensive experience, and the trust that Oman Sail has in organizing world-class sailing events that adhere to international benchmarks.”

Rashid Majid Al Sulaiti, President of QSRF and Chairman of the Organising Committee, remarked, “The Qatar International Optimist Regatta 2025 was a remarkable event, showcasing outstanding performances each day. The significance of effective race management in ensuring an exciting and equitable event cannot be overstated. The appointed officials facilitated smooth races, allowing the sailors to excel. The conditions were superb throughout, and we are proud that the Qatar International Optimist Regatta continues to evolve into a premier event in the class.”

Oman Sail is actively enhancing its collaboration with national federations, fostering the growth of sailing, and playing a significant role in raising the quality of events throughout the region.

Abdulaziz Salim Al Shidi has been appointed as a Race Officer for the 2023 IODA Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship in Abu Dhabi, working alongside Ali Salim Al Harbi and Abid Yaqoob Al Balushi, who served as mark layers during the races.

Additionally, three officials from Oman Sail have been chosen for the inaugural Youth GCC Games – UAE 2024. Mohsen Ali Al Busaidi will serve as the Technical Advisor for Sailing Races, while Captain Saleh Saeed Al Jabri will be part of the Sailing Race Jury. Ahmed Nasser Al Qasmi and Ghalib Saif Al Mamari will join the Race Management Team.
