Oman Participates In Meeting Of WIPO Member States’ Associations

Oman's delegation, led by Dr. Saleh Said Masan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry, participated in the 65th meeting of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) member states' associations in Geneva.

During the meeting, Masan highlighted Oman's commitment to collaborating with WIPO on various projects to strengthen the international organization's intellectual property system in the country.

One of the projects involved supporting frankincense producers to preserve the quality and reputation of Omani frankincense.

Additionally, Oman is working with WIPO on the implementation of the "National Intellectual Property Strategy" to enhance innovation and protect intellectual property rights in the country.

Masan also mentioned the importance of the "Treaty on Genetic Resources and Related Traditional Knowledge" in safeguarding intellectual property rights for valuable resources and appreciated WIPO's support for indigenous peoples and local communities in accessing benefits from these resources.

During the meeting, Masan also presented the following statement:

"The Sultanate of Oman wishes to highlight to WIPO member states' associations the plight of the Palestinian people due to the destructive Israeli assaults on Palestinian cultural and intellectual heritage. This destruction has affected all aspects of life and all individuals whose rights are continuously violated. The Israeli attacks, which have impacted men, women, children, health facilities, and educational institutions, are occurring with the knowledge of the international community. Unfortunately, no international organization is taking legal measures to hold those responsible for these atrocious crimes against humanity accountable."
