Doha: The Omani State Audit Institution (SAI), acting on behalf of the Sultanate of Oman, took part in the Second Ministerial Meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Agencies, which took place in Doha, Qatar, a member State of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The Omani delegation, led by Ahmed bin Salim Al Rujabi, the Deputy Chairman of SAI in charge of Government Unit Audit, was present at the meeting.
The primary objective of the gathering was to improve the sharing of information and the efficiency of investigations among law enforcement bodies, with the goal of better preventing, detecting, investigating, and prosecuting crimes relevant to the "Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention".
This initiative seeks to enhance the exchange of technical support, training, and knowledge among member States, aiming to bolster the effectiveness of their information sharing and investigation efforts concerning crimes under this Convention.
The meeting saw the adoption of its agenda and work program, the announcement of the establishment of a Bureau, and the approval of draft resolutions from the senior officials' meeting, including calls for countries to endorse and ratify the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention.
Additionally, the meeting focused on developing a technical and legislative guide to support its implementation, setting up a permanent government expert team, organizing a forum to promote integrity in the tourism sector, and creating methodologies and indicators to assess corruption levels and the success of anti-corruption strategies.
Outside of the main meeting, there were numerous bilateral discussions and workshops, such as a session on “Promoting Cross-Border Corruption Issues through the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE)” and a workshop titled “The UNDP Global Initiative to Measure Corruption Rates”, which aimed to exchange expertise and initiate areas of cooperation among member States.
Bilateral discussions took place among representatives from member States to exchange knowledge and expertise, and to strengthen collaboration and integration among them.
