Cairo: On Wednesday, the Sultanate of Oman participated in the 116th regular session of the Arab Economic and Social Council, which took place in Cairo at the ministerial level.
The Omani delegation was led by Dr. Said bin Mohammed Al Saqri, the Minister of Economy.
During the meeting, the Secretary General of the Arab League's report on collaborative Arab economic and social initiatives was discussed, along with preparations for the "economic and social file" that will be presented at the upcoming 35th Arab summit in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The agenda for the 116th regular session of the Arab Economic and Social Council includes a variety of topics, such as developments in the Greater Arab Free Trade Area and the Arab Customs Union; strategies to enhance investment opportunities among Arab nations; and concerns raised by the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development regarding a report on food security in Arab countries.
Additionally, the session's agenda addresses the follow-up on the implementation of various programs and strategies. These encompass the "Arab Programme for Sustainable Food Security", the "Arab Sustainable Agricultural Development Strategy 2020-2030", the "Arab Strategy for Sustainable Management of Pastoral Resources 2020-2040", and the "Arab Strategy for Aquaculture 2018-2037".
The meeting also examined proposals for the establishment of a "Council of Arab Ministers of Commerce", an "Arab Ministerial Council for Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies", and an "Arab Council for Customs Affairs".
Furthermore, the ministers shared insights regarding the operations of specialized Arab organizations and institutions linked to the Secretariat General of the Arab League.
