Oman Chairs Arab Forum For Sustainable Development 2030 For 2024

The Ministry of Economy in Oman led the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development 2030 in 2024, with the theme "Working for Sustainability and Peace". The three-day forum, conducted through video communication, took place in Beirut, Lebanon. Organized annually by ESCWA in collaboration with the Arab League and other UN agencies in the region, the AFSD brought together representatives from Arab governments and various relevant bodies to discuss progress, review experiences, and explore implementation mechanisms at national and regional levels.

Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, the Minister of Economy, emphasized Oman's commitment to achieving the 2030 SDGs and Oman Vision 2040 goals through a comprehensive scheme. He highlighted the country's focus on revising the social protection scheme to ensure sustainability, target the most vulnerable groups effectively, and enhance living standards for all segments of society.

The minister also mentioned that this year's forum will emphasize partnerships with the private sector, with the Arab Forum for Business Companies on Sustainable Development Goals being held for the first time as part of the AFSD. Additionally, discussions will cover regional priorities and contributions to the upcoming summit in New York, where leaders will seek multilateral solutions for the benefit of current and future generations.

The forum will showcase the unveiling of the recipients of the Arab Digital Content Award for 2024, recognizing exceptional Arabic digital content that promotes the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
