Oman And Algeria To Consolidate Cooperation In Several Key Sectors

Algiers: The Sultanate of Oman and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria have reaffirmed the strong historical ties and cultural and social bonds between them. They have expressed their commitment to elevating these relations to meet the aspirations and ambitions of their respective peoples.

This was announced during the 8th session of the Omani-Algerian Joint Committee, which took place in Algiers on Wednesday. The session was led by Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, the Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, and Ahmed Attaf, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad.

Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the political consultation and coordination between the two countries on regional and international issues of mutual interest. They expressed their desire to strengthen coordination with regional and international organizations and forums in order to achieve their common interests and the interests of the Arab and Islamic nations.

Furthermore, both sides praised the progress made in developing bilateral relations under the guidance of their respective leaders—His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. They highlighted that the two leaders have given directives to advance joint coordination and cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, in line with the aspirations of their peoples for further progress and prosperity.

The Algerian side commended Oman for its dedicated efforts in establishing a secure and peaceful environment in both regional and international spheres, under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. They also acknowledged His Majesty's significant stances on various Arab and international matters.

Both parties engaged in discussions regarding recent developments in regional and international arenas, emphasizing the importance of unity among Arab nations to collectively address challenges facing the region and the Palestinian cause. They strongly condemned the atrocities committed by Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian population since October 7, 2023, rejecting any attempts to undermine the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

The affirmation of the Palestinian people's right to establish their own independent state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, was also acknowledged by both sides.

The court order issued by the International Court of Justice, which compelled the Israeli occupation state to cease its aggression against Rafah, was welcomed by the two sides. Additionally, the proclamations made by Ireland, Spain, Norway, and Slovenia recognizing the State of Palestine were also welcomed. In light of this, the two sides urged other countries that have not yet recognized the Palestinian state to do so, in accordance with international resolutions and the principles of international legitimacy. They emphasized the importance of political solutions to the crises in Arab countries and expressed their rejection of any form of foreign interference.

Furthermore, the Algerian side commended the constructive efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman to ease tension and facilitate communication in the region. The Omani side, in turn, praised Algeria's efforts at the UN Security Council in defending Arab and Islamic issues, particularly the Palestinian cause.

Both sides emphasized the need to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic, commercial, investment, industrial, tourism, and other promising sectors. They also expressed their satisfaction with the outcomes of meetings between senior Omani and Algerian officials, as well as the signing of memoranda of understanding and executive programs in various fields such as judiciary, youth, sports, standardization, and national archives. These agreements were seen as opening new opportunities for cooperation and fulfilling the aspirations of the two countries' peoples.

The representatives of major companies and businessmen from Algeria and Oman met during the 8th session of the Algerian-Omani Joint Committee. They highly appreciated the outcomes of these meetings, which focused on exploring potential investment opportunities in various sectors such as energy, renewable energy, petrochemicals, the pharmaceutical industry, and tourism.

Furthermore, the two sides expressed their satisfaction with the discussions held and welcomed the signing of two memoranda of understanding in the areas of social development and the judiciary. Additionally, they signed three executive programs related to youth, sports, standardization, and the national archives. These agreements reflect the commitment of both countries to enhance cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties.
