Muscat: The Follow-up Committee responsible for the implementation of the “Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW)” convened for its second meeting of 2024 yesterday.
The meeting was held at the National Centre for Autism and was presided over by Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, the Minister of Social Development and Chairperson of the Committee.
In her address, Dr. Laila emphasized the Sultanate of Oman's strong commitment to empowering women across various sectors, highlighting the significant achievements of Omani women. She acknowledged the valuable contributions of the Committee members to its initiatives.
During the meeting, the Committee examined the Muscat Declaration, assessing the progress made in implementing the “Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action” 30 years after its adoption in 1995.
The Committee also evaluated the alignment of national indicators related to women with international standards to enhance women's status in comprehensive development. Additionally, discussions were held regarding the legal empowerment of women.
