OAC To Help Upgrade Oman's Accreditation System

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion is taking steps to enhance confidence in Omani standardisation bodies and improve compatibility with international standards by establishing the Oman Accreditation Centre (OAC).

The OAC aims to develop national technical capabilities in accreditation, strengthen the quality infrastructure in Oman, and promote awareness about accreditation bodies. This initiative will contribute to the accreditation of both governmental and private standardisation assessment bodies in line with global specifications.

In order to achieve these goals, the Ministry has signed a cooperation framework agreement with the GCC Accreditation Centre (GCA) to establish a branch of the GCA in Oman. Additionally, a contract has been signed with the GCA to enhance the efficiency of Oman's accreditation system and create a roadmap for the Oman Accreditation Centre.

Imad Khamis Al Shukaili, Director General of Standards and Metrology at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, emphasized the importance of the OAC in building confidence in Omani standardisation bodies and ensuring compatibility with international practices.
