Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Thursday that "there will be no Palestinian state."
Netanyahu made these comments during his visit to the Maale Adumim settlement located in the occupied West Bank.
He officially signed a proposal that will facilitate the construction of thousands of new homes in the vicinity as part of contentious plans to expand West Bank settlements.
"We are committed to our promise that there will be no Palestinian state; this land is ours," Netanyahu declared.
"We will protect our heritage, our land, and our security," the Israeli prime minister further stated during the event, which was broadcast live by his office.
What information do we have regarding the E1 settlement project?
The initiative will involve the construction of approximately 3,400 new homes on a parcel of land referred to as E1, which spans about 12 square kilometers (five square miles).
This development will bisect the occupied West Bank, severing its connection to East Jerusalem.
Palestinians consider East Jerusalem to be the capital of a prospective future state. This principle is fundamental to the two-state solution, which is supported by the majority of the international community.
Last month, the project received approval from Israel's right-wing government.
Several Western nations, including Germany, have denounced the plans.
The project had faced delays for years due to significant opposition from the international community.
Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967, are deemed illegal under international law.
