National Livestock Vaccination Project Launched In South Al Batinah

A’Rustaq: The National Livestock Vaccination Campaign for the 2025-2026 season has officially commenced in the South Al Batinah Governorate. This initiative, carried out by the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, will take place over a span of eight consecutive months throughout all wilayats in the governorate.

The primary goal of the campaign is to vaccinate a variety of animals against critical epidemic and infectious diseases. This effort will aid in prevention, lower infection rates, and limit the spread of these diseases. It serves as a vital component of the national strategy aimed at combating animal epidemics and plays a significant role in bolstering biosecurity and safeguarding the health of animal herds.

The vaccination program will include goats, sheep, and cattle, targeting diseases such as Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), pox, enterotoxemia, foot-and-mouth disease, lumpy skin disease, and rabies.

Eng. Younis Khamis Al Saadi, the Director of the Animal Wealth Department in South Al Batinah, remarked that this campaign continues the efforts from previous seasons. He highlighted that in 2024, around 315,804 goats, sheep, and cattle received vaccinations, totaling 518,187 doses administered.

He further mentioned that through these campaigns, the directorate aims to increase the annual number of vaccinated animals, curb the spread of animal diseases, and improve diagnostic and treatment programs. This will ensure herd health and promote sustainable development within the agricultural sector.

Al Saadi urged livestock breeders to collaborate with the field veterinary teams and proactively vaccinate their animals. He stressed that this is essential for protecting the animal population, ensuring the sustainability of livestock production, and enhancing its role in food security.
