Nama Water Services Unveils Strategic Projects In Water Sector

Muscat: Nama Water Services Company has entered into four agreements aimed at advancing strategic initiatives within the water sector.

These initiatives encompass the design and execution of water distribution networks in the wilayats of Ibri, Yanqul, and Dhank located in the A'Dhahirah Governorate (Packages 1 and 2), the establishment of water networks in the wilayats of Samail and Izki in the A'Dakhiliyah Governorate, as well as the development of wastewater networks in Al Ansab within Muscat Governorate.

This announcement was made during a ceremony held in Muscat on Tuesday, presided over by Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources.

During his address at the event, Qais bin Saud Al Zakwani, CEO of Nama Water Services Company, emphasized the company's commitment to achieving sustainability and ensuring water security in the Sultanate of Oman through a series of current and future strategic projects across various governorates.

Al Zakwani further noted that the company is actively working on 27 projects with a total investment exceeding OMR700 million, aimed at improving the water and wastewater infrastructure in the regions served by the company, from Musandam to Al Wusta. He highlighted that these projects contribute OMR193 million to the in-country value (ICV).

He also mentioned that these initiatives will enhance the water networks in the Sultanate of Oman, increasing coverage to over 72.80 percent, while the number of beneficiaries of the company's services has risen to 937,970.

He elaborated that the projects encompass a water transmission initiative linking the desalination facility in Sohar to A’Dhahirah Governorate, an enhancement project for the water system connecting the desalination plants in Barka and Sohar, a project aimed at improving the water transmission system in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate, and an enhancement initiative for the water transmission system between the South A’Sharqiyah and North A’Sharqiyah governorates.

Al Zakwani noted that the Omanization initiative implemented by the company, which involves establishing permanent contracts with supporting firms, has successfully created 885 jobs within the water sector. He indicated that this effort has increased the Omanization rate in these companies to 84 percent.
