Muscat To Impose Hefty Fine For Illegal Camping

Muscat: The Muscat Governorate has introduced new regulations governing camping activities in the area, with the objective of enhancing public safety and safeguarding the environment.

A penalty of OMR 200 will be levied on individuals who camp without the necessary permit in Muscat Governorate.

According to a statement from the Muscat Governorate, camping in caravans, tents, or any setup for more than 48 hours is prohibited without a valid license. An insurance fee of OMR 100 is required. The license is valid for seven days and can be renewed.

The requirements for camping sites include:

1. Camping must occur in designated municipal areas.

2. A minimum distance of 10 meters from the beach must be maintained.

3. Campsites must be spaced at least 5 meters apart.

4. Proximity to fishing areas and restricted zones must be avoided.

To ensure safe and healthy camping, the designated site must remain clean throughout the duration of use, crops and wild vegetation should not be harmed, waste should not be burned or buried, and unhygienic mobile restrooms should be avoided.

Technical requirements for camping sites include:

1. The license number must be clearly displayed on the front of the caravan, tent, or designated area.

2. The use of concrete or any other construction materials is strictly forbidden.

3. Parking, entry, and exit procedures must be well-organized.

4. The licensee is prohibited from transferring the license to anyone who is not a licensee or from conducting activities at any location other than the one specified in the license.

5. Generators must be equipped with sound-silencing features.

6. The use of heavy machinery for paving or leveling the site is not allowed.

Penalties for non-compliance with camping regulations include:

1. A fine of OMR 200 for camping without a valid permit.

2. A fine of OMR 50 for breaching regulations and requirements.

3. Repeated offenses will lead to immediate expulsion from the site.
