Muscat Leads Oman’s Digital Shift With 24 Fully Digitised Services

MUSCAT: The Muscat Governorate has achieved a significant milestone by digitizing 24 essential municipal services, securing its position in the Advanced Tier of Oman’s Government Digital Transformation Programme, known as ‘Tahawul.’

This accomplishment ranks Muscat among the top four entities out of 49 government organizations evaluated for their advancements in digital transformation.

The recognition is a result of the successful digitization of vital municipal services, enhancing the ease and accessibility of government interactions for both residents and businesses.

The services that have been digitized and streamlined in 2024 encompass: the issuance of building permits, certificates of completion for excavation permit deposit refunds, requests for street lighting in residential neighborhoods, permits to initiate construction, security deposit refunds, requests for building completion certificates, permits for additional work within commercial establishments, burial services, registration and cancellation of lease agreements, requests to host events at municipality-owned venues, and auditing of modern building systems.

Additionally, the initiative includes tree planting services beyond plot boundaries, registration of requests with the customer service department, address update services, soil transportation services, requests for extra copies of blueprints, the ‘Eitimad’ platform, electronic authentication of lease contracts, the ‘Baladiati’ mobile application, renewal of building permits, registration of consulting offices, homogeneous activities service, and a complaint service for scrap sales.

By removing the necessity for in-person visits, this initiative has greatly enhanced service efficiency, enabling beneficiaries to complete transactions effortlessly from any location.

Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, the Governor of Muscat, recognized this achievement as a significant step forward in the digital transformation of the governorate.

“This milestone reflects our commitment to Oman Vision 2040, which emphasizes the use of technology to enhance governance. We take pride in establishing a standard for digital service delivery that guarantees a seamless and accessible experience for all users. We appreciate the efforts of the digital transformation team and Muscat Municipality for their hard work in bringing this vision to fruition. Our aim is to set a high standard for digital service delivery in Oman,” he stated.

Muscat Municipality has been at the forefront of these initiatives, ensuring that digital services are not only available but also user-friendly.

Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Hamidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, highlighted the critical need for digital transformation.

“In today’s fast-evolving digital landscape, offering government services online is imperative, not optional. Our initiatives have made municipal services quicker, more transparent, and readily accessible to our residents,” he remarked.

He further expressed, “We are grateful to His Excellency the Governor and the digital transformation team for their unwavering support of Muscat Municipality in its pursuit of comprehensive digital transformation.

“This journey encompasses not only the digitization of services but also the training of our workforce and the cultivation of a digital work culture to ensure a fully integrated and satisfying experience for those utilizing municipal services.”

With this acknowledgment, Muscat Governorate is establishing new benchmarks for digital governance in Oman, leading the way for more intelligent and efficient municipal services.
