Muscat: The 3rd International Conference of the Omani Libraries and Information Association (OLIA) commenced in Muscat on Tuesday. The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr. Abdullah Khamis Ambusaidi, the Education Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education.
Running until February 13, the conference focuses on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and cutting-edge technologies in the advancement of libraries and knowledge management. Distinguished researchers and experts from various countries are participating in the event.
On the first day, a visual presentation titled “Oman’s Libraries: Past and Present” highlighted the evolution of Omani libraries and their significant role in the preservation and dissemination of knowledge throughout history.
The conference also featured five academic sessions, which included contributions from institutions dedicated to the exchange and development of information.
These institutions discussed the challenges posed by AI, its potential to enhance data acquisition, and its role in advancing knowledge management within Omani academic libraries.
The conference provides a platform for organizing symposia and high-tech meetings with representatives from international institutions specializing in information and libraries, thereby fostering new opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange. -ONA
