MTCIT Launches Smart Mobility Service Using Electric Scooters

The 'Smart Mobility Service Using Electric Scooters' experiment, implemented by Omani company SLC, has been launched by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) in collaboration with Knowledge Oasis Muscat, the technical arm of Madayn. This initiative is the first project to be adopted through the 'Sandbox' ecosystem initiative.

Knowledge Oasis Muscat, affiliated with the Ministry, will serve as the incubating environment for this experimental phase. The Ministry aims to regulate the transportation service by electric scooters through this experiment, providing it as an effective and sustainable means of transportation. Additionally, it will promote the use of alternative transportation methods, reduce traffic congestion, and lower carbon emissions.

This experiment is expected to enhance the transportation experience for citizens and residents in the Sultanate of Oman. It will also open up new opportunities for innovation and development in the transportation and logistics sector, while encouraging startups to offer smart mobility services.

The operational trial of the electric scooter service in Knowledge Oasis Muscat will last for six months. During this period, users will have the opportunity to try the service and evaluate its effectiveness and impact on the transportation experience in cities. This trial marks an important milestone in enhancing sustainability and development in the transportation sector of the Sultanate of Oman, paving the way for more innovative initiatives in the future.
