Minor Earthquakes Recorded In Oman; One In Muscat

Muscat: The Earthquake Monitoring Centre (EMC) at Sultan Qaboos University has reported two minor seismic events in the Sultanate of Oman.

The first tremor, measuring 0.9 on the Richter scale, was detected in the Wilayat of Al Amarat, Muscat. This earthquake struck at a depth of 5 kilometers, with its epicenter situated around 16 kilometers southwest of Muscat.

On the same day, Wednesday, January 1, 2025, another earthquake was recorded in the Wilayat of Shalim and Al Halaniyat Island in the Dhofar Governorate, registering a magnitude of 3.0. This event occurred at a depth of 6 kilometers, with its epicenter located approximately 190 kilometers northeast of Salalah.
