Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has inaugurated the second edition of the "Makeen" Camps at the Programming Academy's headquarters. This intake features 40 trainees, who are categorized into two primary specializations: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, as well as Comprehensive Web Application Development.
The "Makeen" Camps training program is crafted to provide young Omani nationals with essential skills in contemporary technical fields. It consists of an intensive 16-week academic segment, followed by an 8-week practical placement within government and private sector organizations. This framework is designed to enhance the trainees' chances of acquiring hands-on experience, thus better equipping them for the job market.
On the first day of the camp, participants engaged in interactive sessions aimed at fostering teamwork and collaboration. They were also briefed on the overall program and the projects they will undertake during their time at the camp. Additionally, they met the Academy's team and familiarized themselves with the learning environment.
The current cohort was selected from a pool of over 1,040 job seekers, who underwent a rigorous screening process that included assessments and personal interviews to identify the most qualified candidates for the program.
The second edition of the "Makeen" Camps aims to train a total of 200 participants across three intakes throughout 2025. Participants will receive a monthly financial stipend and laptops, creating a well-rounded training environment that facilitates both learning and practical application.
In line with the program's strategy for geographic growth, the second session of the camp is set to begin in Sohar on April 20th, concentrating on the fields of Systems Engineering and Network Security Engineering. Following this, additional sessions will be introduced in the governorates of Sur and Salalah. This expansion is part of the Ministry's commitment to empower Omani youth across the Sultanate's regions and to foster innovation and the digital economy, in accordance with the national digital transformation initiatives.
