New York: The Sultanate of Oman emphasized that the resolution of conflicts in the Middle East can only be achieved through the establishment of the Palestinian state and its full membership in the United Nations. This statement was delivered during the UN General Assembly's 10th emergency special session. Sayyid Ahmed Hamoud Al Busaidi, a member of Oman's permanent delegation to the United Nations in New York, described the creation of the Palestinian State as a crucial step for future UN actions and a global demand supported by the international community.
Oman urged the Security Council to reconsider granting full membership to the State of Palestine in the United Nations, highlighting that rejecting this request would not contribute to security and peace in the Middle East or the world. Oman also criticized the application of double standards by the Security Council when it comes to the Palestinian cause, stating that it damages the council's credibility.
Furthermore, Oman expressed its appreciation for the UN General Assembly members' overwhelming support for the resolution on the State of Palestine's right to obtain full membership in the United Nations, despite being vetoed. Oman also voiced deep concern over the Israeli occupation forces' continuous military escalation, war crimes, and genocide against unarmed civilians in the Gaza Strip and other occupied Palestinian territories.
In solidarity with four countries representing international groups supporting the State of Palestine's legitimate demand for full membership in the United Nations, Oman reiterated its support for the Palestinian cause, aligning itself with the rest of the world.
The United Arab Emirates delegation (representing the Arab Group), the Islamic Republic of Mauritania delegation (representing the Organization of Islamic Cooperation), and the Republic of Uganda delegation (representing the Non-Aligned Movement) all made statements affirming the international community's backing for the State of Palestine's request.
