Mbappe Available For Copa Del Rey Final Despite One-game Ban

Madrid: Kylian Mbappe, the striker for Real Madrid, will be eligible to play in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona later this month after receiving a one-match suspension for his red card incident against Alaves.

The French captain was dismissed with a straight red card during Madrid's 1-0 victory in La Liga last Sunday due to a tackle on Alaves midfielder Antonio Blanco.

According to the referee's report, Mbappe was penalized for violent conduct, which typically incurs a suspension ranging from one to three matches.

Had he received a three-match ban, Mbappe would have been sidelined for the Copa del Rey final against their El Clasico rivals on April 26, 2025.

However, a commission opted for the least severe penalty of a one-match suspension, taking into account the referee's assertion that Mbappe was "disputing the ball."

The Spanish Football Federation stated, "Mbappe: one-match suspension for a violent incident occurring during the game or as a direct consequence of a game-related incident, with additional fines in accordance with Article 52 of the Civil Code."

As a result of this one-match ban, Mbappe will miss the La Liga match against Athletic Club Bilbao at home on Sunday, April 20, 2025.

Currently, Madrid sits in second place in La Liga, trailing league leaders Barcelona by four points.

This season, Mbappe has netted 33 goals in 49 matches for Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti's team will face Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals at the Bernabeu tonight, aiming to recover from a 3-0 loss in the first leg in London.
