Mumbai: Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) has entered into a partnership with SpaceX to provide Starlink's broadband internet services to customers in India.
On Wednesday, the company announced that this partnership is contingent upon SpaceX obtaining the necessary authorizations to operate Starlink in India. The collaboration will allow Jio and SpaceX to investigate how Starlink can enhance Jio's service offerings and how Jio can support SpaceX's direct consumer and business services.
According to the announcement, "Jio will offer Starlink solutions through its retail locations and online platforms."
This collaboration aims to utilize Jio's status as the largest mobile operator globally in terms of data traffic, alongside Starlink's leadership in low Earth orbit satellite technology, to provide dependable broadband services throughout India, including its most rural and remote areas.
Additionally, the company indicated that it will not only stock Starlink equipment in its retail stores but will also create a system to assist with customer service, installation, and activation.
The partnership with SpaceX reflects Jio's dedication to making reliable internet access available to all businesses, including small and medium enterprises, as well as communities across India.
Starlink will enhance JioAirFiber and JioFiber by delivering high-speed internet to the most difficult locations quickly and affordably.
Jio and SpaceX are exploring additional areas of collaboration to utilize their respective infrastructures, aiming to further develop India's digital landscape.
Mathew Oommen, Group CEO of Reliance Jio, stated, "Our primary focus is to ensure that every Indian, regardless of their location, has access to affordable and high-speed broadband."
