Javelin Star Arshad Nadeem Ends Pakistan's 40-year Gold Drought

Paris: In a display of exceptional athleticism, Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem clinched the gold medal with an extraordinary throw of 92.97 meters, eclipsing the previous Olympic record previously set by Denmark's Andreas Thorkildsen during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Nadeem's performance was marked by a remarkable final attempt of 91.79 meters, underscoring his dominance in the javelin throw event. On his second attempt, he achieved a remarkable distance of 92.97 meters, securing the gold medal in the men's javelin throw final.

Nadeem's prowess was evident as he surpassed the 90-meter mark on his sixth attempt, reaching 91.79 meters.

Grenada's Anderson Peters secured the bronze position with a throw of 88.54 meters.

In the preliminary rounds, Chopra had recorded a throw of 89.34 meters, which remains his second-best distance in all his career throws.

Despite a competitive rivalry with Nadeem, with Chopra leading 9-0 in their head-to-head record, Nadeem's exceptional performance of 90.18 meters at the 2022 Commonwealth Games surpassed Chopra's previous best effort.

Neeraj Chopra was unable to secure his gold medal in the men's javelin throw at the Paris Olympics on Thursday, settling for silver with a best throw of 89.45 meters.

Chopra's most impressive throw came on his second attempt, yet he encountered difficulties with four consecutive foul throws, which ultimately prevented him from claiming the gold.

Since India's independence, Neeraj Chopra has established himself as the second male athlete to secure two Olympic medals in an individual event.

His initial and third attempts were nullified by red flags, and his final three attempts were also deemed invalid due to fouls.

Despite his strong showing in the qualification round, where he achieved a throw of 89.34 meters, Chopra fell short of surpassing his season best in the final.

His 89.45-meter throw was his second-best performance, falling short of the gold.

He faced considerable pressure during his final run, crossing the line once again and receiving a red flag in his fifth attempt. His subsequent attempts were also disqualified after he crossed the line while in the act of throwing.
