Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met with Maria Tripodi, Italy's Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, along with Antonio Bartoli, the Italian Ambassador to India, to identify opportunities for increasing bilateral trade and strengthening collaboration in these important fields.
Goyal took to social media platform X to describe the meeting as "productive," emphasizing the dedication of both nations to enhancing their economic relationship.
"I had a productive meeting with H.E. Maria Tripodi, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Italy, and H.E. Antonio Bartoli, Ambassador of Italy to India. We discussed ways to enhance bilateral trade and strengthen cooperation in key areas such as agriculture, defense, space, infrastructure, and transport," Goyal shared on X.

In 2023, India and Italy marked the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, as reported by the Indian Embassy in Italy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi traveled to Italy on June 14 of last year to attend the G7 Summit in Puglia. As reported by the Indian Embassy in Italy, his bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni that day continued the tradition of high-level discussions between the two nations.
The leaders reached an agreement to enhance collaboration in various areas, including defense and security, science and technology, space exploration, clean energy, and migration and mobility. During the visit, a Letter of Intent for cooperation in Energy Transition and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding Industrial Property Rights were signed.
