Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, through the Oman Society of Lipid and Atherosclerosis and in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and the Ministry of Health, is hosting the 20th International Symposium on Atherosclerosis.
The symposium, which commenced on Wednesday, is centered around the theme "Towards the Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases through Precision Medicine." It will continue until December 6, 2024, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, and attended by numerous dignitaries, ministers, and senior officials from both the public and private sectors, representing both local and international communities.
This event is notable as it is the first time the symposium is being held in the Sultanate of Oman and the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, attracting over 1,200 participants from 62 countries worldwide.
The scientific agenda includes presentations from prominent global experts, featuring both general and concurrent sessions. Esteemed speakers will present their insights and research on cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, the conference will host collaborative sessions with various local, regional, and international organizations, including the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control, the International Diabetes Federation, the World Obesity Federation, and the World Heart Federation.
These sessions offer participants the chance to interact with various organizations and take advantage of their educational, training, and research initiatives. It is important to note that the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, along with members of the Oman Society of Lipid and Atherosclerosis, put forth a bid to host the conference in Toronto, Canada, in 2018.
The decision to select the Sultanate of Oman as the host for the conference was grounded in scientific criteria that highlight the advanced medical services available in this field within the Sultanate. This recognition serves as an encouragement for Omani physicians and medical professionals to strive for excellence and engage in scientific research.
