Muscat: The Ministry of Information has confirmed that the Royal Decree (No. 58/2024) which establishes the new Media Law, is a testament to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s dedication to enhancing the role of Oman’s media and journalists in performing their crucial and constructive duties within the Sultanate of Oman.
In a formal press release, His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Harrasi, Minister of Information, emphasized that the legislation is in harmony with Oman Vision 2040, addressing the evolution and impact of media, as well as the influence of contemporary digital technologies. The law strengthens the mission of Oman’s media by adhering to principles of objectivity, accuracy, complete neutrality, and the freedom of opinion and expression, all in line with the nation’s foundational statutes and with a significant focus on the values of citizenship and national pride.
Furthermore, His Excellency highlighted that the law protects the rights of journalists, organizes the media sector, establishes standards for media activities, and delineates procedures for interacting with artistic creations and publications.
With confidence in the law’s potential, His Excellency concluded that it will elevate Omani media to unprecedented levels, heralding the start of a new era that will bolster its national and cultural objectives, in alignment with Oman’s ambitions and vision for a revitalized renaissance.
