Kuala Lumpur: Ace Indian badminton player and Paris Olympics 2024 semi-finalist Lakshya Sen faced a defeat in the Malaysia Open 2025 tournament, losing to Chi Yu-Jen from Chinese Taipei in straight sets at the Axiata Arena on Tuesday.
Ranked 12th in the BWF standings, Sen struggled against the world No. 32, finishing the match with scores of 14-21, 7-21 in the men's singles round of 32. This encounter marked their first competitive meeting.
In another match, Indian shuttler HS Prannoy made his return to the court for the first time since the Paris 2024 Olympics, competing against Canada's Brian Yang in a match that experienced several interruptions.
Ranked 26th, Prannoy won the opening game 21-12, but play was halted in the second game due to a leaking roof, with the score at 6-3 in his favor. After a 25-minute delay, the match resumed, and Yang managed to take an 11-9 lead before the game was paused again due to ongoing roof issues.

In women's doubles, Commonwealth Games bronze medallists Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advanced in the BWF Super 1000 tournament, defeating Thailand's Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn and Sukitta Suwachai.
Despite facing some challenges at the start of the second game, the sixth-seeded duo secured a convincing 21-10, 21-10 victory over their unseeded opponents. They will next face the world No. 4 pair of Zhang Shuxian and Jia Yifan from the People's Republic of China.
