Indian EAM Jaishankar Meets UN USG, Reviews Indian Contribution To UN Peacekeeping

New Delhi: Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a meeting with Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the Under Secretary General for Peace Operations, where they discussed India's dedication to United Nations peacekeeping initiatives.

On Wednesday, the two officials also addressed the importance of multilateralism in the contemporary global landscape.

Jaishankar shared on X, "It was a pleasure to welcome Jean-Pierre Lacroix, USG for Peace Operations UN Peacekeeping, in New Delhi today. We discussed India's enduring commitment to UN Peacekeeping and the principles of multilateralism."

On Tuesday, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh also met with Lacroix to evaluate India's contributions to UN Peacekeeping forces.

The Ministry of Defence posted on X, "Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh met with UN Under Secretary General for Peace Operations Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix in New Delhi today to assess India's substantial contributions to UN Peacekeeping. They explored strategies to enhance the effectiveness of peace operations, ensure the safety of peacekeepers, and broaden India's involvement in global peace initiatives."

Lacroix also visited the National Defence College, where he engaged with the Commandant and faculty members. The Ministry of Defence noted on X, "A UN delegation led by Under Secretary General for UN Peace Operations Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix visited the NDC in New Delhi today. The visit aimed to strengthen interactions at the senior leadership level, and the delegation engaged with the Commandant and faculty of the NDC."

During a press conference in Delhi, he addressed the topic of 'Women in Peacekeeping.' The UN in India highlighted on X, "Enhancing the role of women in UN Peacekeeping is vital for its success. The 'Women in Peacekeeping' conference provided a platform to discuss initiatives aimed at increasing the representation of women in senior positions within Peacekeeping. India is committed to this agenda, and we appreciate the support."

This serves as a moment for me to express my gratitude to [India] for its unwavering support of the United Nations, particularly in relation to peacekeepers and UN peacekeeping efforts. Additionally, I would like to honor the Indian peacekeepers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving under the UN banner.
