New Delhi: During the inaugural session of the India-Japan Forum, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar underscored the growing opportunities for semiconductor collaboration between India and Japan, highlighting its crucial role in transforming global geopolitical landscapes.
He noted that as both countries rejuvenate their semiconductor sectors, they are also engaging with Taiwan, setting the stage for a significant partnership in this essential industry.
"Japan is currently revitalizing its semiconductor industry, and India has launched a semiconductor mission after a prolonged period of inattention. There are numerous developments underway. It is noteworthy that both nations are collaborating with Taiwan. I perceive the early signs of something potentially impactful here, which could be highly significant for both countries," he stated, emphasizing the strategic relevance of this initiative.
Jaishankar recognized that this collaboration is still in its infancy but expressed optimism about its remarkable potential, ranking it among the top five priorities despite its early stage. "Typically, I would say, 'It's just the beginning... but in this instance, I would make an exception, as I believe this field is vital and will play a crucial role in balancing geopolitical dynamics in the coming decade," he added.
He emphasized the increasing interest and resolve among stakeholders from both countries to strengthen their relationship and rectify previous deficiencies. "There is significantly more dialogue and enthusiasm, along with initiatives from organizations and individuals involved in this relationship. This reflects a certain level of dissatisfaction regarding our past limitations, but also a strong commitment to progress," Jaishankar remarked. He highlighted that industry-driven initiatives, such as enhancing training and language proficiency, represent encouraging advancements.
Regarding reforms in higher education, EAM Jaishankar pointed out that India is now more receptive to collaborative opportunities, including student exchange programs and the establishment of joint campuses.
"In my view, this current momentum and genuine desire to improve and elevate the quality of our relationship is paramount," he concluded, underscoring a renewed dedication to fortifying India-Japan relations.
