New Delhi: On Tuesday, India and Qatar formalized their relationship by signing an agreement to establish a Strategic Partnership, along with several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, investment, innovation, technology, food security, culture, and people-to-people connections.

The Strategic Partnership Agreement was exchanged in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, at the Hyderabad House in the national capital.

During their meeting, Prime Minister Modi and the Emir engaged in delegation-level discussions, resulting in the signing of a revised agreement to prevent double taxation and fiscal evasion related to income taxes.

"PM @narendramodi & HH Sheikh @TamimbinHamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar held extensive discussions at Hyderabad House today. Both leaders agreed to elevate India-Qatar relations to a Strategic Partnership, focusing on trade, energy, investments, innovation, technology, food security, culture, and people-to-people ties. They also exchanged perspectives on regional and global issues of mutual concern," stated Randhir Jaiswal, Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs.

Earlier that day, the Emir of Qatar, who was on a two-day visit to India, received a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He was greeted by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with senior government ministers. The Qatari Emir also engaged with the ministers during his visit. President Droupadi Murmu further interacted with the accompanying Qatari delegation.

The Emir of Qatar is traveling with a distinguished delegation that includes ministers, senior officials, and a business group. He previously visited India for a State Visit in March 2015.

This visit by the Emir of Qatar is expected to enhance the already expanding multifaceted partnership between the two nations.
