Muscat: Today, HH Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, the Honorary President of the Programme of Omani Promising Startups (POPS), made a visit to “Thawani Technologies,” the first financial technology firm to receive a license in the Sultanate of Oman.
This visit is part of a broader initiative aimed at inspiring emerging startups, gaining insights into their goals, and promoting their contributions to the national economy.
During his visit, HH Sayyid Bilarab explored the facilities of “Thawani,” which was founded in 2016 and has been successful in delivering innovative payment solutions tailored to local market needs while also contributing to the country’s digital transformation efforts as outlined in Oman Vision 2040.
The company highlighted its significant milestones in implementing advanced technologies, such as mobile payment solutions, biometric systems using facial and palm recognition, artificial intelligence, deep learning, and secure payment cards. Additionally, it celebrated its remarkable achievements both locally and internationally, including winning the Innovation Unit Award for Entrepreneurship in 2020 and being recognized as the Best FinTech Company in the Middle East in 2024.
In a discussion with HH Sayyid Bilarab, the specialists from Thawani detailed their plans for regional growth, which involve entering both regional and international markets to bolster the visibility of Omani startups on the global stage. HH Sayyid Bilarab praised the firm's accomplishments in utilizing modern technologies to improve digital payment and collection systems and stressed the need for startups to continuously enhance their skills and adapt to global advancements.
Joining HH Sayyid Bilarab on this visit were Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology; Dr. Saif bin Abdullah Al Haddabi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation for Research and Innovation; Eng. Said bin Abdullah Al Mantheri, the CEO of Oman Information and Communications Technology Group (ITHCA); along with members of the Supervisory Committee of the Programme of Omani Promising Startups (POPS).
