Muscat: The Ministry of Health has initiated a pilot field survey for the second phase of the National Non-Communicable Disease Survey, targeting several households.
Dr. Ahmed Salim Al Mandhari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Planning and Health Regulation, participated in the pilot field test alongside Dr. Jean Jabbour, WHO Representative in Oman, and numerous survey teams.
Earlier this week, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, conducted an extensive training program for the field workers involved in the national health survey (Phase 2).
This five-day training session included 165 field teams from various governorates across the Sultanate of Oman.
The training aimed to enhance the participants' capabilities in executing the survey in accordance with the highest international standards. It featured a practical component, where a pilot test was conducted on a selected group of households prior to the commencement of the actual field survey.
The National NCDs Survey seeks to gather precise data on the prevalence of non-communicable diseases and their associated risk factors within the community, thereby aiding in the enhancement of public health strategies and evidence-based decision-making.
The first phase of the national survey commenced on December 29, 2024, concentrating on updating household lists in various governorates of Oman to prepare for the selection of a random sample of participating households.
The second phase is set to begin next April and will continue for three months, during which field data will be collected from the selected households through health questionnaires and clinical measurements, including height, weight, blood pressure, and blood tests to assess sugar and cholesterol levels.
