Fertility Centre Offers Glimmer Of Hope To Childless Couples

Muscat: The Fertility Centre at Al Wattayah Gynaecology and Obstetrics Complex has recently celebrated the birth of the first baby girl to a 37-year-old mother who had been childless for nearly a decade.

Dr. Rahma bint Salim Al-Ghabshi, the esteemed Head of the Fertility Centre, remarked, "This case marked one of the inaugural instances of fertility treatment at our establishment. The mother had been a patient at our clinic for an extended period, undergoing numerous treatments, including stimulants and artificial insemination. Additionally, she was managing diabetes and an underactive thyroid gland."

She further elaborated that the mother's pregnancy journey was a testament to the comprehensive care provided by the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Khoula Maternity Hospital. Despite the challenges posed by the pregnancy conditions, the birth was a success, with the mother delivering a healthy baby girl weighing 2.56 kilograms.

Dr. Al-Ghabshi highlighted that the centre sees over 60 cases each week, conducting between 15 and 20 in-vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures. She emphasized the centre's commitment to collaborating with international experts in fertility and its goal to achieve academic accreditation, positioning it as a specialized training facility for female doctors in the field of fertility.

The Fertility Centre at Al Wattayah Gynaecology and Obstetrics Complex, established in February of this year, stands as a beacon of hope and a pathway for couples facing challenges in pregnancy and childbirth.

The centre boasts a medical team with extensive expertise in fertility, including specialists in infertility and assisted conception, embryology technicians, and the latest technology to deliver high-quality, free medical services.

In-vitro fertilization (IVF) is utilized in cases involving blocked fallopian tubes, male infertility, or women with ovulation disorders or infertility of unknown origin, among other conditions where other treatments have failed.

Dr. Al-Ghabshi pointed out that the mother's age is a critical factor in the success of IVF treatments. As women age, the success rates of IVF decrease. The success rate of IVF at the age of forty is notably lower than that at the ages of thirty or twenty.
