Muscat: Omantel (the premier integrated telecommunication services provider in the Sultanate of Oman) in collaboration with Zain Omantel International 'ZOI' (the leading wholesale provider in the Middle East), is set to host the 11th annual Global Carrier Community Meeting in Muscat from November 5th to 6th, 2024.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said.
This prestigious event is expected to attract approximately 900 decision-makers and representatives from over 200 telecommunications and technology companies from 70 countries. The event commenced at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel.
The focus of the conference is on the rapid development of Salalah as a significant connectivity hub in the Middle East, attributed to its strategic geographical position and Omantel's ongoing investments in advanced technology infrastructure.
A notable feature of the event is the inauguration of the "SN1 Carrier Neutral Data Centre," which is poised to establish Salalah as a pivotal digital conduit connecting Asia, Africa, Australia, and Europe.
Ghassan bin Khamis Al Hashar, the Chief Financial Officer at Omantel, expressed that the conference presents a unique opportunity to showcase the company's achievements in the wholesale business, particularly in Salalah, which is anticipated to become the second most connected city by submarine cables in the region in the forthcoming year.
Al Hashar emphasized that the company's strategy is centered around investments in submarine cables, neutral data centers, strategic partnerships with leading service providers, and the attraction of foreign direct investments in the technology sector.
Furthermore, Eng. Yasser Al Lawati, the Director of Marketing & Domestic at ZOI, highlighted the significance of this meeting in contributing to the global development of the telecommunications sector. "Through its participation in this gathering, ZOI reaffirms its commitment to transforming the international wholesale landscape," Al Lawati stated.
The conference's agenda includes two specialized sessions. The inaugural session, facilitated by Google, delves into the workings of the global Internet, specifically focusing on the role of submarine cable technology in global communication. The second session, conducted by Amazon, explores cloud computing services and artificial intelligence (AI).
This event, in alignment with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, underscores the Sultanate's ambition to lead the world in telecommunications technology and digital infrastructure. Omantel is dedicated to substantial investments in emerging technologies such as AI, cloud solutions, and cybersecurity, aiming to deliver cutting-edge ICT solutions that will propel Oman's future development.
