Muscat: In collaboration with the Oman Debate Centre, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth has announced the commencement of the 8th edition of the National Debating Championship.
This championship aims to enhance the skills of young individuals in persuasion and critical thinking, while also fostering a competitive spirit and promoting the principles of respectful dialogue. It underscores the significance of debates as a powerful educational tool that aids in refining teaching methodologies and empowers youth to systematically analyze social issues.
The initiative aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, focusing on youth empowerment, encouraging constructive dialogue among young people, and developing their capabilities in public debating and critical analysis. The event will also play a role in training participants to engage professionally with national, regional, and international matters.
A training program will soon be conducted in three sessions: the first session, scheduled for tomorrow, will introduce the fundamental principles of debate; the second session on Tuesday, April 8, will focus on argumentation and refutation; and the third session will cover case analysis techniques and methods for presenting arguments.
This year's championship will feature a revised format for the preliminary qualifying rounds, which will take place in three different locations. The first round is set for Friday, April 11, at the Arab Open University in Muscat Governorate, involving participants from Muscat, A’Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah, North A’Sharqiyah, and South A’Sharqiyah governorates.
The second round will occur at the University of Al Buraimi in Al Buraimi Governorate on Friday, April 18, with participants from North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, and Musandam. The final round will be hosted at Dhofar University in Dhofar Governorate on Monday, April 21, featuring participants from Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates.
