Muscat: On Tuesday, the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, through the National Programme for Government Digital Transformation “Tahawul,” unveiled the Digital Accessibility Guide.
This initiative is designed to promote digital inclusion, ensuring that services are accessible to all members of society, particularly individuals with disabilities and the elderly.
The guide aims to support developers of mobile applications and websites in implementing practices that allow all users to access and benefit from their offerings by adhering to digital accessibility principles.
Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of enabling organizations to create applications and websites that meet digital accessibility standards, thereby minimizing costs related to future accessibility adjustments.
The guide is intended for development teams and supervisors in both public and private sectors, including project managers, user experience and interface designers, software developers, digital content creators, digital accessibility experts, and quality assurance engineers. It also serves as a valuable resource for application owners who hire developers, as well as stakeholders focused on digital accessibility for individuals with disabilities, senior management, and decision-makers.
The guide outlines a series of guidelines to assist developers in achieving digital accessibility for mobile applications and websites, along with methods for assessing their accessibility levels.
