Muscat— The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth convened a dialogue session today titled "Culture, Library Sciences, and Sustainable Development as part of the "Civilizational Horizons" programme.
The session addressed the problems that libraries confront in the wake of the digital revolution and extensive internet usage, looking at how libraries have adjusted to these changes to deliver trustworthy information regardless of location. It also emphasized their increasing contribution to education, scientific research, and innovation.
The debate highlighted the close links between culture, library science, and information, stressing the function of libraries as cultural institutions that have historically enriched human civilisation while fostering principles of pluralism, tolerance, and freedom of expression.
The conference also highlighted the critical role that libraries play in attaining sustainable development goals by structuring knowledge and handling massive intellectual output using sophisticated technology that keeps up with technological progress.
Furthermore, the session examined how libraries help to advance artificial intelligence models by utilizing their large databases and training individuals to use these technologies to create trustworthy and well-researched material.
Discussions also addressed the condition of library and information sciences in the Sultanate of Oman, the national information strategy, digital transformation under "Oman Vision 2040," and significant concerns confronting the library sector in the country.
The session also discussed investment prospects in cultural and creative sectors, as well as libraries' participation in this area.
