Dhofar Municipality Implementing Road Projects In Salalah At A Cost Of OMR34mn

Dhofar: The Dhofar Municipality is moving forward with the implementation of four primary road construction projects in Salalah as part of its efforts to enhance infrastructure, facilitate traffic flow, and improve the road network within the Dhofar Governorate.

The aggregate expense for these projects amounts to OMR 34 million.

The strategy for these projects has considered the need for swift completion, ensuring that the construction activities do not disrupt traffic during the upcoming Khareef Season, and that any unfinished work is completed after the Khareef Season.

Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Ba’awain, the Director General of the Directorate General of Projects and Technical Affairs at Dhofar Municipality, mentioned that the contract value for the 9-km expansion of Sultan Qaboos Road is OMR16, 300.

This expansion includes two lanes on each side, internal road shoulders, parking areas, and a service road stretching 800 meters at the Al Dahaliz location.

Furthermore, the project incorporates several traffic signals, interchanges, and protective measures among other elements.

Regarding the expansion of Al Farouq Road, he stated that construction began at the end of March 2024 and is scheduled to last for two years, with a budget of OMR4.5 million.

The construction of Ateen Tunnel began last April and is projected to last for two years, with a budget of OMR7.5 million.

The purpose of the Ateen Tunnel project is to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow at the intersection of 18 November Road and Ateen Road by replacing the existing roundabout with a tunnel.
