Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in Al Buraimi Governorate, in collaboration with the Oman Environmental Holding Company (Bee'ah), has conducted the destruction of a substantial amount of illegal smokeless chewing tobacco.
This initiative was executed in accordance with Decision No. (256/2015) and its subsequent amendments, which ban the sale and distribution of these products due to their harmful health implications.
In total, 2,300 bags, each containing 100 grams of the illicit tobacco, were destroyed, resulting in a total of 230,000 grams. This action was taken after all required legal procedures were completed. The Authority upholds a stringent market surveillance program, consistently monitoring and confiscating unauthorized products while promptly pursuing legal action against offenders.
The CPA encourages consumers to stay alert and report any suspected infractions they may encounter. They offer multiple communication channels for this purpose, promoting public involvement in ensuring consumer safety and adherence to legal regulations.
