Asyad Dry Dock Emerges As One Of The Largest Ship Repair Hubs In The Mena Region

Duqm: The Asyad Dry Dock complex, located in the Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZAD), is emerging as one of the largest ship repair hubs in the Middle East and North Africa region.

In order to expand its range of commercial services and meet the demands of both regional and international clients, ASYAD introduced ship manufacturing services last year. This move aims to stimulate the growth of the logistics and shipbuilding industry. The complex offers a wide range of services including cargo loading, unloading, transportation, as well as comprehensive support for modern fishing trawlers and marine research vessels.

Since its establishment in 2011 until September 2023, Asyad Dry Dock has successfully completed over 1,700 maintenance projects for more than 550 local and international commercial clients from approximately 70 countries.

The facility consists of two docks, with the first dock measuring 410 meters in length and 95 meters in width, and the second dock measuring 410 meters in length and 80 meters in width. Both docks have a depth of up to 14 meters and can accommodate ships with a tonnage of up to 600,000. Additionally, the dock includes a 2,800-meter long berth, equipped with a comprehensive range of industrial workshops and yards spanning an area of 453,000 square meters.

In the first quarter of 2023, a floating dock was introduced, further enhancing the company's capacity in maintenance and vessel repair services by 20 percent.

Dr. Abdulsalam Omar Al Rabaani, the Acting Chief Operating Officer of Asyad Drydock, highlighted that the Asyad Group invested over RO 6 million to acquire the floating dock in 2023. He also emphasized that the current dock's strategic location and size allow for the potential accommodation of a larger number of floating docks in the future.
