Annual Strategic Exercise Enhances Strategic Thinking

Muscat: The National Defence College at the Academy for Strategic and Defence Studies on Tuesday finished its annual strategic exercise (DecisionMaking/12), which involves participants from the 12th National Defence Course representing various military, security, and civil organizations of the state.

The closing ceremony was conducted under the patronage of Vice Admiral Abdullah Khamis AlRaisi, Chief of Staff of the Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF), and in the presence of Maj. Gen Hamid Ahmed Sakroon, Chairman of the Academy for Strategic and Defence Studies.

The ceremony included a briefing on exercise procedures, then a visual presentation recapping the activities, assigned roles, participant tasks, and important lessons learned from the exercise's hypothetical scenarios and phases.

Rear Admiral Ali Abdullah Al Shidi, Commandant of the National Defence College and Exercise Director, said: "Today, we conclude the DecisionMaking/12 exercise, which served as a critical intellectual and training milestone in preparing national leaders to address challenges in a complex regional and international environment. "

This year's study focused on recent regional and global trends, assessing their possible security, economic, and political implications for the area.

He went on to say, “This exercise aimed to improve strategic thinking and decision-making skills during crises, broaden understanding of geopolitical dynamics, and emphasize the importance of joint planning, interinstitutional coordination, and role integration in exceptional circumstances. ”

Senior military commanders and officials attended the event.
