Al Buraimi Healthy City Included On WHO's Sustainability List

Muscat: Al Buraimi Healthy City has been included in the list of sustainable cities in the Eastern Mediterranean Region by the World Health Organisation (WHO), according to a statement from the Office of Wali of Al Buraimi and the Ministry of Health (MOH).

The recognition was celebrated at Al Salam Grand Resort in Al-Buraimi, under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Hilal Ali Al-Sabti, Ministry of Health. The event was attended by H.E. Dr. Hamad Ahmed Al-Busaidi, Governor of Al-Buraimi, along with Dr. Jean Jabbour, WHO Representative to the Sultanate of Oman, various Walis and members of the Shura Council, and senior officials from the Ministry.

Sheikh Dr. Faisal Saleh Al-Maskari, Deputy Wali of Buraimi, highlighted the official signing phases of Buraimi Healthy City since 2020, which have been instrumental in achieving national targets and implementing the concept of "Health for All".

Dr. Majed Rashid Al-Maqbali, Director General of Health Services in Al Buraimi Governorate, emphasized that Al Buraimi has successfully met 80 criteria in accordance with international standards. This has resulted in the implementation of community initiatives across various sectors over the course of four years.

These initiatives, including health-promoting schools, the development of Aflaj interfaces, alternative power initiatives, environment hygiene initiatives, the development of traditional agriculture systems in Falaj Al-Buraimi and Sa'ara, mobile food carts, the development of driving school locations, the "Our home, Our Medic" initiative, and others, have contributed to the WHO's recognition.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Dr. Jean Jabbour, WHO Representative to the Sultanate of Oman, presented the recognition certificate to H.E. Sheikh Rashid Said Al-Kalbani, Wali of Buraimi.
