Muscat: As technology continues to shape our world, artificial intelligence (AI) and drones are transforming various industries and economies. In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), these advancements are creating new opportunities—improving efficiency, fostering growth, and addressing some of society's most urgent issues. However, this progress also brings forth critical questions regarding ethics, privacy, and regulatory frameworks.
Amid the fourth industrial revolution, the MENA region is on track to emerge as a global frontrunner in AI and drone technology. The statistics are compelling—the regional AI market, valued at nearly US$12 billion in 2023, is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 44.8% from 2024 to 2030. Concurrently, the drone industry in the region is expected to increase from US$2 billion in 2024 to US$6 billion by 2030.
In Oman, the impact of AI and drones is already evident. AI technologies are optimizing operations in logistics, while drones are being utilized in agriculture, providing precision farming solutions that conserve water and enhance crop production.
On a global scale, drones have played a crucial role in disaster response, offering real-time mapping and search-and-rescue capabilities following natural disasters like earthquakes and floods.
Nevertheless, the swift integration of AI-driven drones prompts significant considerations. How can we ensure data privacy in an interconnected environment? What regulatory frameworks are necessary to promote the responsible deployment of autonomous technologies across various sectors? To delve into these challenges and opportunities, Tejarah Talks will host its final session of 2024: AI & Drones – Where Are They Taking Us? Scheduled for 7:30 PM on Tuesday, December 10, at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre, this event promises a comprehensive and insightful discussion on Oman’s role in this technological evolution.
The evening session will be moderated by Jamal Al Asmi, Executive Producer at RealityCG, who stated: “AI and drones are transforming our lifestyles, work environments, and business operations. These technologies not only aim to enhance key sectors aligned with Oman Vision 2040 but also foster sustainable growth and economic diversification.”
Joining Al Asmi will be Eng. Mubarak Al Farsi, Senior Airworthiness Inspector at the Civil Aviation Authority, who will discuss the evolution of Oman’s regulatory frameworks in response to the rapid proliferation of drones. Haidar Al Lawati, Senior Manager of Artificial Intelligence at Oman Data Park, will provide insights into the impact of AI on various industries throughout the nation. Additionally, Said Abdul Ghafoor Saifudeen, CEO of Star Drones, will share his views on how drone technology is revolutionizing agriculture, logistics, and other sectors in Oman.
This event is organized by the Oman Business Forum in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Investment Promotion, and is sponsored by Jindal Shadeed, Nortal, Apex Transgulf Manufacturing, MHD, Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre, and Oman FM.
