Agreements Signed To Finance Maritime History Museum Project In Sur

Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has finalized two financing agreements, each valued at OMR 12 million, to fund the initial phases of the Maritime History Museum project within the Wilayat of Sur, located in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. These agreements have been signed in collaboration with Oman LNG and Oman India Fertilizer Company, both affiliated entities of the Oman Investment Authority.

The signing ceremony took place at the General Diwan of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, with His Excellency Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, representing the Ministry. Similarly, Eng. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Numani, CEO of Oman LNG, and Dr. Ahmed bin Saeed Al Marhubi, CEO of Oman India Fertilizer Company (OMIFCO), respectively, signed on behalf of their organizations.

Honorable Dr. Amer bin Nasser Al-Muta’ani, CEO of the Oman LNG Development Foundation, highlighted the significance of this agreement within the broader context of strengthening partnerships and leveraging the cultural and tourism potential of the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, with a particular focus on the Wilayat of Sur. He emphasized that the establishment of this museum will not only create new employment opportunities but also enhance local economic value, underscoring the importance of investing in human resources.

This initiative is also aligned with the "Gift of Oman" campaign, showcasing the commitment of Omani companies to the community and the enhancement of cultural heritage.

The Maritime History Museum is poised to become a distinctive landmark, chronicling Oman's rich maritime heritage. It is anticipated to attract a significant number of tourists and contribute to the economic growth of the region.

The project is receiving support from the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Oman LNG Development Foundation, and the Oman Investment Authority. The completion of the museum is scheduled for 2025.
