Muscat: Today, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has signed an agreement worth OMR79 million for the initial phase of the Al Batinah Coastal Road. This agreement is part of the government's efforts to enhance the transportation and logistics sector and its contribution to the national economy.
The agreement was signed by Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Mohammed Abdullatif, the General Manager of Consolidated Contractors Company Oman, which is responsible for the project. The signing ceremony was attended by Eng. Badr Salim Al Maamari, the Secretary General of the Tender Board.
Eng. Said emphasized the importance of this project as it will connect the Khazaen economic zone with neighboring wilayats and the Port of Al Suwaiq. He further stated that the Al Batinah Coastal Road will alleviate traffic congestion in the wilayats of Barka, Al Musanaa, and Al Suwaiq, while also providing connectivity to the wilayats of Liwa and Shinas. This will have a positive impact on the local economy, added the minister.
He also mentioned that the remaining sections of the road, spanning 111km from Al Suwaiq to Sohar, will be implemented once compensations for those affected by the project are completed.
The agreement includes the construction of the remaining parts of the carriageway from Barka to Al Suwaiq, the development of a flyover to replace Al Suwaiq roundabout, and the completion of the first part of the initial phase, which covers 30km. This includes 22km from Barka to Al Suwaiq Port and 8km from Sohar Port to Khatmat Milaha. Additionally, the agreement entails the construction of four bridges across wadis, 67 culverts, and service roads on both sides of the road.
The construction agreement also encompasses the development of a 4-kilometer dual carriageway, stretching from Barka flyover to Barka Souq (marketplace), as well as a 6-kilometer link to the Wilayat of Al Suwaiq. This includes the construction of the Al Suwaiq flyover, which will span across the Al Batinah Highway.
It is important to highlight that the Al Batinah Coastal Road project commences from the Wilayat of Barka and concludes at Khatma Milaha in the Wilayat of Shinas. This extensive road spans a total distance of 244 kilometers and is divided into two phases. The first phase consists of two sections, with the initial part commencing from the Al-Naseem Interchange in the Wilayat of Barka and extending to Al Suwaiq Port, covering a distance of 66 kilometers. The second section begins from Sohar Port and reaches Khatmat Milaha, spanning a distance of 67 kilometers. The second phase of the Al Batinah Coast Road extends for 111 kilometers, connecting Al Suwaiq Port to Sohar Port.
