Muscat: The cumulative contribution of active private enterprises within the Sultanate of Oman to the national economy, measured in terms of added value, stood at approximately OMR8.528 billion by the conclusion of the second quarter of 2024, as per preliminary figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
During the same period, these enterprises played a pivotal role in the gross domestic product (GDP) at current market prices, accounting for approximately 81 percent of the GDP in the second quarter of 2024, a slight increase from the 81.5 percent recorded in the preceding quarter of 2023.
Furthermore, the aggregate added value of large enterprises saw a modest growth of 4 percent to OMR6.38 billion by the end of the second quarter of this year, in comparison to the same period last year. Conversely, the added value of medium enterprises stood at OMR642.90 million, while that of small enterprises increased to OMR673.30 million.
The aggregate added value of small enterprises experienced a marginal increase of 1.9 percent to OMR832 million.
It is important to highlight that the workforce employed by private enterprises operating within the Sultanate of Oman witnessed a modest increase by 0.5 percent by the end of the second quarter of 2024, reaching a total of 1,781,643 employees, an increase from the previous quarter's total of 1,772,582 employees.
Additionally, the data from the NCSI indicates that the number of enterprises operating within Oman saw a significant growth of 10.9 percent by the second quarter of 2024, reaching a total of 252,312 enterprises, marking an increase from the 252,312 enterprises reported in the same period of 2023.
