Ace Investor Mark Mobius Bullish On India's Semiconductor, Real Estate Sectors

New Delhi: Mark Mobius, a distinguished expert in emerging markets and a seasoned investor, reaffirmed his optimistic outlook on India's real estate and semiconductor sectors, highlighting their significant potential.

During his presentation at the NDTV World Summit 2024 in New Delhi, Mobius, who serves as the Chairman of Mobius Emerging Opportunities Fund, articulated that the rising standard of living in India is anticipated to foster new demands for real estate.

"The standard of living is on the rise, and there's a growing desire for housing. It's crucial to meet this demand," he emphasized.

Regarding the semiconductor industry, Mobius noted that fabrication companies (fabs) are likely to establish their presence in India, given the country's substantial population and skilled workforce.

He expressed his belief that India is poised to emerge as a global leader in semiconductor production, attributing this to the rising demand, the country's open economy, and its already robust software industry.

The experienced investor has witnessed the government's approval of five semiconductor units in India, with construction underway at two sites, and preparations for the start of work at the other three. These companies have collectively invested nearly Rs 1.5 lakh crore.

Mobius also commended India's Goods and Services Tax (GST) taxation system, acknowledging the complexities inherent in managing a diverse nation. "The unification of the tax system is remarkable," he stated.

He elaborated on the criteria he considers essential when evaluating potential investments, including the growth of a company's earnings, the return on invested capital, and the caliber of its management.

When reflecting on his investment advice to a younger version of himself, Mobius advised patience and thorough study. He also stressed the importance of market awareness.
