MUSCAT: Sayyid Suleiman bin Hamood Al Busaidi was voted chairman of the Oman Football Association (OFA) on Wednesday.
The Al Shabab Club representative won and got 30 of the 43 votes at the OFA Extraordinary General Assembly on Wednesday, which was conducted to elect a new board for the 2025-2029 term, defeating his sole competitor, Dr. Jassim bin Mohammed Al Shukaili.
Sayyid Suleiman succeeds Sheikh Salim Al Wahaibi, who completed two successful terms.
Qutaiba bin Said Al Ghailani has been elected vice chairman. He beat Sayyid Musallam bin Salim Al Busaidi and Nasr bin Hamood Al Wahaibi for the position. Qutaiba, a representative of Al Arouba Club, received 22 votes to win the seat.
Hajar bint Khamis Al Mujaini received 25 votes to earn the only women's seat on the board.
Abdullah al Shanfari, Abdullah al Rashdi, and Ali al Kathiri were chosen as OFA board members, while Mohammed Khamis Al Araimi was selected as a board member from the players' committee, bringing the board total to four with Ms. Hajar.
The election was held for the first time using a FIFA-approved electronic and digital method.
