Oman's impressive performance at the inaugural FIH Men's Hockey5s World Cup continues as they advance to the semi-finals. In the quarter-finals, under the guidance of coach Seigfried Aikman, the hosts dominated Kenya with a 5-2 victory, setting up an exciting match against the Netherlands later in the day.
Oman made history on Monday by securing a spot in the quarter-finals, becoming the first team from the Sultanate to reach this stage in any Olympic sport. Their remarkable journey continues, fueling hopes of a World Cup medal.
In the match against Kenya, Oman took an early lead of 2-1 in the first half, thanks to an outstanding performance by Khalid Al Shaaibi, who completed a hat-trick (9', 20', and 22'). Rashid Al Fazari and Asama Barazahan also contributed to the team's success with their goals.
In the other quarter-final matches, the Netherlands defeated India 7-4, while Poland secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over an undefeated Egypt, with the winning goal scored in the final seconds of the match. Poland will face the winner of the quarter-final match between Trinidad & Tobago and Malaysia.
The semi-finals will take place later in the evening, marking the culmination of the first edition of the Hockey5s World Cup on Wednesday.
