Oman, India Strengthen Ties With New Book Celebrating Shared History

Muscat: India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi have collaboratively launched a book entitled Mandvi to Muscat: Indian Community and the Shared History of India and Oman. This event occurred during the 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat.

The publication emphasizes the longstanding historical and cultural connections between India and Oman, detailing the migration of the Indian community from Mandvi in Gujarat to Muscat and other regions. It examines the significant contributions of the Indian diaspora to Omani society and commerce, highlighting the robust people-to-people ties that have influenced bilateral relations over the years. The book is published by Muscat Media Group.

Dr. Jaishankar characterized his discussions with Sayyid Badr Albusaidi as fruitful, focusing on essential areas of collaboration between the two countries. He shared his reflections on the social media platform X, stating:

"Delighted to meet FM @badralbusaidi of Oman this morning. Appreciate his personal efforts in successfully hosting the 8th Indian Ocean Conference. Held wide-ranging discussions on our cooperation in trade, investment, and energy security. So glad we could jointly release the logo celebrating the 70th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. Also jointly released a book ‘Mandvi to Muscat: Indian Community and the Shared History of India and Oman’.”

Alongside the book launch, the ministers also introduced the official logo commemorating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Oman, marking seven decades of robust bilateral collaboration in trade, investment, and energy security.

Dr. Jaishankar, speaking at the opening session of the Indian Ocean Conference, emphasized India's dedication to enhancing maritime collaborations within the region. He pointed out India's significant contributions to improving connectivity, safeguarding maritime security, and bolstering regional stability through initiatives such as the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC) and naval security partnerships.

The 8th Indian Ocean Conference, held in Muscat, convened regional leaders and experts to address urgent maritime issues and explore cooperative strategies for economic and security collaboration in the Indian Ocean area.
