Oman Celebrates International Workers Day

Muscat: On Sunday, the General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW) celebrated International Workers Day, observed annually on May 1.

This event, organized in Muscat, sought to emphasize the significance of the labor union movement within the Sultanate of Oman, as well as its contribution to enhancing working conditions in private sector organizations.

The ceremony, held with the support of Dr. Mahad Said Ba’Owain, the Minister of Labour, saw participation from high-ranking government officials, representatives from various private sector organizations, civil society groups, and labor unions operating in Oman.

During the event, a “Labour Syndicates Data Management Programme” was introduced. This initiative aims to streamline labor syndicate operations, improve inter-communication among unions, create a centralized database, and promote transparency in labor union activities.

Furthermore, a program concerning the “Privileges of GFOW Affiliate Members” was launched in partnership with the local company Thawani Technologies.

The event recognized several labor unions, government agencies, private organizations, and civil society groups that were awarded the “Labour Syndicate Action Award 2025. ” This recognition was given to acknowledge the awardees’ contributions to labor initiatives and their commitment to fostering balance in the labor market, along with ensuring economic and social stability.

The award serves to motivate all relevant parties to continue advancing labor movement efforts within the Sultanate of Oman.
