Muscat: The Oman Handball Association (OHA) has unveiled a comprehensive training program for the national beach handball team as it prepares for two significant tournaments: the GCC Beach Games, which Oman will host in April, and the 10th Asian Beach Handball Championship in May 2025, a qualifying event for the 2026 Beach Handball World Cup.
Oman has been assigned to Group A in the Asian Championship, competing against Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, and the Maldives. Group B features Iran, the Philippines, Jordan, Pakistan, and India. A total of nine teams will vie for a chance to qualify for the World Cup in Oman.
The national team will commence its training on Wednesday, engaging in daily sessions at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex through the end of March. Additionally, plans are in motion to organize a series of friendly matches in preparation for the Gulf Beach Games.
Following this, the team will participate in a brief domestic training camp from April 1-3 before competing in the GCC Beach Games from April 4-11. Another internal camp is planned from April 13-18, with training sessions scheduled for both morning and evening in either Sohar or Sur.
A crucial aspect of the team’s preparation will include an overseas training camp from April 19 to May 1, during which Oman will compete in six friendly matches. Upon their return, the squad will finalize their preparations at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex from May 3-5, leading up to the start of the Asian Beach Handball Championship.
